As an outward sign of its commitment to democracy in sports, Seattle Sounders FC committed a 20% interest in Seattle Sounders FC 2 (S2) to the Sounders Community Trust (SCT). SCT was formed to assume this interest, influence the direction of the club, and support overall access to soccer in our community.
Seattle Sounders FC, S2 and SCT are entirely separate entities working in close partnership. SCT has the right to elect one representative to sit on the S2 Executive Board overseeing operations alongside the General Manager and other directors, as well as vote on key S2 operational decisions. Additionally, S2 may involve SCT members in major decisions affecting fans and supporters.
SCT holds a 20% liquidation interest in S2. In the event that the club is sold, SCT would receive 20% of the sale price. All financial and governance interests in S2 belong to SCT as a whole as opposed to individual members. There is no financial burden associated with SCT ownership of S2, and members are allowed the opportunity to influence the club without the risks associated with lower-division professional soccer. None of the funds generated by SCT go towards offsetting the costs of operating S2, which are the responsibility of Seattle Sounders FC.
